Going green with stock picks
Most stock picks are made with going green in mind — greenbacks that is.
Capitalism is notorious for not giving a hoot for the environment, but going for the quick cash — which is sad, but that’s greed the free market for you. Why think about the forest in 50 years when you can cut down all the trees now and make a killing? Why think about future fish populations when we can pull nets immediately and rush off to the cannery?
Well, now it’s 2009 and some people think a little differently about making money and helping the environment. And, luckily for you, if they’re successful and help their companies grow and expand, making for a cleaner environment and safer, healthier planet then YOU CAN GET RICH!!!!!!!
McG on being McG
It seems the weekend wasn’t as successful as McG would have wished for his new film, ‘Terminator Salvation.’
His addition to the famed Terminator franchise had the third largest opening of the four films — the lowest, ironically being the first. Now a classic, the original ‘Terminator,’ made in 1984 for an estimated $6.4 million, went on to make more than $78 million. ‘Terminator Salvation’ made an estimated $43 million on its opening weekend, but cost more than $200 million to make.
McG says Christian Bale is ready to due a sequel, but that it all depends on the audience turning out to buy tickets. At an advance screening in his beloved Newport Beach, McG gives his mom a hard time about his controversial nickname. Born Joseph McGinty Nicol, McG has been answering to his sobriquet since around 6 but — especially with all the recent media surrounding his new film — has had to explain its origins over and over and over again.
SunCats seem like a bright idea
Genius!! Who needs to recharge batteries by plugging something into a wall when the sun will do it for free?
I love this idea!! Batteries equipped with small, flexible PVC so when the charge is dead you let Mother Nature replace the power previously stored inside.
I guess it’s not very efficient yet, Knut and his SunCats definately fall into the ‘bright idea’ category.
Bright idea… get it? Bright… never mind.
Hanging with Frank Black and Grand Duchy
I’ve been working with Greer Wylder, of Greer’s OC and Greer’s OC-TV, for three months now and it’s been wonderful.
Greer is a great lady, full of energy, intelligence and good intentions.
Recently we went backstage at the Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa and met with Violet Clark and Frank Black (who now actually is going back to the Black Francis stage name), who are touring with their new band, Grand Duchy.
I’ve been a big Pixies fan since the late-80s and was very happy to meet him after the show. At first it didn’t seem like it was going to happen, but eventually we went from no video, to some video, to tape the whole show and talk to us afterwards.
Black and Violet were very patient and gracious enough to sign a set list with the rest of the band. Usually I never get autographs — it’s pretty unprofessional — but with the access I had and the venue it seemed OK.
Grand Duchy seems somewhat experimental and free-form in some regard. I really liked the song “Volcano!,” which is inspired by a documentary by Werner Herzog. I hadn’t known much about Herzog until Grizzly Man, and after that I had to learn as much about him as I could. We could have chatted about Herzog for a few minutes it seemed — we had both seen films the other hadn’t — but I shut it down so we could get to work. (I guess that was a good thing, but I can small talk forever and Violet seemed to be cut from the same cloth.)
Solar goes in orbit?
Granted solar power was first used in space to power orbiting space craft for indefinate missions, but could the future of PVC be space-based?
